Is a slatmill actually safe for a dog?

Yes. Our premium canine slatmills are completely non-electric and have no motors. The dog powers the belt, so they are always in 100% control of starting, stopping, walking and running at their own natural speed. A handler stays at the dog's shoulder throughout, and nothing is tied to the machine.

Is the slatmill motorized or does it force a pace?

Accepted Answer

Never. There are zero motors and no forced pacing. Each slatmill is self-propelled by the dog, which means the belt only moves when the dog chooses to move and stops when the dog stops.

What vaccinations do you require?

Accepted Answer

Current rabies, bordetella (kennel cough) and DHPP. You upload a photo or PDF of each record when you book, and we confirm them before the first visit. If a record is about to expire we will remind you.

What if my dog has never seen a slatmill?

Accepted Answer

Most dogs have not. The first visit is a calm introduction to the stationary slatmill. Because there is no motor, the belt only moves when your dog chooses to step forward. Many dogs build confidence within one or two sessions, and we never force movement.

Question 5

Does this replace regular walks?

Accepted Answer

No. It replaces the exercise part of a walk, not the sniffing and sunshine part. Dog-powered slatmill work is useful for conditioning, hundred-degree Amarillo afternoons, windy or icy days, recovery plans, and dogs who cannot do group walks.

Do I need to be home?

Not if we have a safe way to collect your dog — a lockbox, a gate code, or a neighbor. Plenty of clients watch from the window on the first couple of visits and then leave us to it.

Which dogs are not a good fit?

Puppies under about 12 months with growing joints, dogs in acute pain, flat-faced breeds with serious breathing issues, and dogs recovering from surgery without vet clearance. We will tell you honestly if we think the van is wrong for your dog.

What does a session actually include?

A five-minute warm-up walk outside, ten to eighteen minutes of self-paced slatmill work, a cool-down, water, a paw and pad check, and a short text with what we did and how it went. Your dog controls every start, stop and stride.

Can two dogs exercise at the same time?

Yes. The van is equipped with two separate premium canine slatmills, so two compatible dogs from the same household can exercise side by side. Both are non-electric and dog-powered, allowing each dog to start, stop and move at its own natural speed.

Is there a monthly membership?

Yes — the VIP Club. Members get three slatmill visits every week on a recurring monthly plan: $300/month for one dog or $540/month for two dogs together. That's the biggest saving we offer (about $23 per solo session or $42 per tandem session), plus priority booking so your preferred time slots are reserved first. It's the best fit for dogs who thrive on a consistent conditioning schedule.

How do I pay?

Through Square. Choose a single visit or a VIP monthly membership, and Square handles the card payment securely — we never see your card details.

What happens in bad weather?

Nothing changes. The van is heated, ventilated and dry, which is the whole reason it exists in the Panhandle.

Can I cancel or reschedule?

Individual sessions can be rescheduled free up to 12 hours before the slot. VIP memberships can be paused or cancelled before the next billing month — just contact us.
